SILICON100 Initiative

Program Description

The Silicon100 Initiative is designed to introduce young people to the fascinating world of information technology such as computer engineering (software, hardware and data communications), processor control, robotics, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.

Why?

There is a significant gap between People of Color and Digital Economy. The Internet and the economy it has created are the greatest engines of wealth ever known, however that wealth is not being shared by all due to three factors:

The Why - Our Mission

The accomplishment architecture is based on Four Pillars:

 Robotics

 Prodigy

 Emerging Technology

 Cyber Security

To accomplish the goal of spanning the digital divide, the Silicon100 Initiative is structured in the following manner:
  • Lecture series by experts in their fields
  • Hands-on Laboratory Sessions including Arduino Processor Kits, Intro Electronic Kits, Learning Python, etc.
  • Build a local area network to study cyber security concepts using Raspberry Pis, routers, etc.
  • Fun-filled Intro to Digital Command Control (DCC) via Model Railroading
  • Field Trips to various local HBCU's with IT programs, Science Museums, etc.
  • Guest lectures from Black Professionals in Engineering, Information Systems, Cyber Security, Data Communications, etc.
  • Build robots that can successfuly travel through mazes
  • Participate in various robotic contests
  • Participate in various hack-a-thons

Why The Rigor? By building a strong foundation starting with Boolean Math, simplified concepts of how a silicon transistor works our mentees will be able to extend that knowledge into digital electronics, computer & processor design, processor control as well as into coding and cyber security. They'll be able to choose a career path in either:
  • Computer Design
  • Software Design
  • Network Design
  • Robotics Engineering
  • Cyber Security Design and Management
  • Aspire to attain upper management positions such as a CIO or CTO

Our 2025 mentees exploring:
SILICON100 Mentees - Group 1
SILICON100 Mentees - Group 2
SILICON100 Mentees - Group 3
